As with two winding transformer , auto transformer may be equipped with many taps and automatic switchgear to allow them to act as automatic voltage regulators, to maintain a steady voltage at the customers service during a wide range of load conditions. A Auto transformer is also a single wound transformer with two end terminals and one or more terminals at intermediate tap points. The primary voltage taken from the terminals almost having one terminal in common with primary voltage.
